A word from our patron, international soprano, Rebecca Evans.Rebecca Evans

“I am absolutely delighted to be associated with Opera’r Ddraig and to give my support to the wonderful opportunities it provides to young singers and to all the disciplines required in staging a professional opera.

I have always found Opera to be inspiring and fulfilling and I believe Opera’r Ddraig’s approach and enthusiasm will also provide inspiration to the wide range of talent in Wales and beyond.

Opera’r Ddraig is an unique and exciting organization and I hope that I can play an active part in helping it to grow, bringing together the talents and skills for young artists and to encourage a wider audience for opera.”

Rebecca has been an invaluable source of support to Opera’r Ddraig. She has been an incredibly knowledgeable and energetic mentor for the singers and her energy and enthusiasm for Mozart opera has been infectious. It has been a joy to work with her and we would all like to thank her for the time she has made for us.

Wow! What can I say? Wonderful singers, excellent orchestra (some strong, well-focused conducting, crisp strings and lovely woodwind phrasing), imaginative direction (adept at drawing out the sense of fun but sensitive in allowing the singers ‘space’ for musicality and emotional empathy to shine through) and effective staging. The beauty of the music always leaves one in awe of Mozart of course, but, what marked this evening out as particularly special was the warmth of tone and ease of technique heard from your immensely talented young soloists. It was a pleasure from start to finish, and well worth the drive across from Oxford. Thank you!

Bravo! What a wonderful production!  Jan and I were at Saturday night’s performance and found it vibrant, rich and tremendous fun. The intimacy of the venue and the spirit of the performers and players really made for an unforgettable evening. Our thanks and congratulations to all involved…..

Saw tonight’s production and just wanted to say how wonderful it was! We were blown away by the talent and enthusiasm – well done! Our first visit to the Gate but won’t be our last.

Just to say thank you for what was one of the most wonderful nights I’ve had in years of attending, and working on, opera. Marriage of Figaro has always been my favourite and last night’s performance confirmed just what a perfect opera it is. Cast, orchestra and production couldn’t be faulted. Next time, on your audience feedback forms, add an extra box: ‘exceeded expectations’ because last night, Saturday, you did. It was a privilege being there and if the future of music in this country depends on artists such as last night, it’s in good hands! Thanks again..and roll on the next production!
